Expert communicator across digital, print, broadcast and social media

I am a media and communications adviser, award-winning journalist and accomplished editor.

I have a decade of experience across digital, print and broadcast media; public service sectors; and Australia’s startup industry. Such is the quality of my work; several university textbooks have re-published my articles as learning tools.

My skills allow me to develop and deliver high-quality, innovative media and communication strategies and materials across traditional and emerging channels. All work is delivered on time and within budget, while also following all official policies and processes.

I have prepared complex, sensitive and dynamic written materials such as briefs, strategy plans, stakeholder reports, media releases and speeches. I also have extensive experience with the creation and management of social media, advertising and website content.

My comprehensive services extend to the end-to-end production and publication of podcasts, professional video editing and the creation of dynamic graphics. I am also on the cutting-edge of the latest platforms, tools and technologies used for communications.

I currently plan, develop, publish and manage engaging written and visual content for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning social media platforms, website and intranets – material supports the goals, values and objectives of the government department.

Working in fast-paced newsrooms has also given me the ability to maintain composure when managing competing demands and working to strict deadlines. I can adapt to change and take pride in my ability to produce the highest level of content under stressful conditions.

I have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds. My highly-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, and ability to maintain effective working relationships support my delivery of projects.

By liaising with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, I have been able to contribute to the delivery of integrated communications strategies while working at DELWP by highlighting successful partnerships between government agencies and the community.

I have demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and analyse emerging challenges/opportunities and their communications needs. This is backed by my deep knowledge of large-scale consumer behaviour – theories backed by analytics and data.

Leading and managing media and stakeholder relationships has seen me identify and execute well-thought-out proactive and reactive media opportunities to deliver a large impact across a range of traditional and digital media, while also escalating potential risks.

By nurturing relationships with ministerial offices and executives, I have prepared for media releases to key journalists and prepared senior staff members for media interviews with formal briefings to help with the delivery of key messaging.

I have demonstrated experience in communications planning and understand the processes and tools that increase the quality and impact of key messages. I can also monitor and report on the performance and success of campaigns, using data as a basis for future strategies.

My strong understanding of keyword research and SEO practices, and ability to interpret analytics and data has seen me develop and implement strategies to improve engagement, bounce rates and conversions across traditional and emerging channels.

During my tenure as technology editor at news.com.au, my content strategy saw my section remain the number one tech site in Australia for the traffic, engagement and reach as per industry standard metrics determined by Nielson.

This was achieved by providing my team with clear and concise communication objectives and building a content plan around stories that were both newsworthy and topical. Success also relied on my ability to actively and collaboratively contribute to the team.

My roles have seen me pitching, writing, editing and producing content daily, with homepage editing, staff management, social media publishing also integral components of my job. Areas of expertise include news and opinion pieces on technology, science, finance, retail and crime, plus a strong background covering breaking news.
